History

Prior to establishing his own Construction Company, Richard Clark gained valuable experience in the Construction field as a member of the United States Army Corps of Engineers. He was an Operating Engineer from 1968 to 1971 for C.P. Ward, Inc. of Rochester, New York. While employed for C.P. Ward he worked on all phases of excavation, sewer, road, and paving projects operating heavy equipment.

In 1971 Mr. Clark left C.P. Ward and was employed as an operating Engineer by the Nory Construction Co. of Rochester, New York. At Nory Construction, Mr. Clark was responsible for supervising crews working again on all phases of excavation, sewer, road, and paving projects. In addition to being employed full-time Mr. Clark also worked part time from 1968 to 1973 operating snowplow equipment at Xerox Corporation in Webster, New York for A.V. Towner of Rochester, New York. This was done after normal working hours. In that same year, Mr. Clark fulfilled his dream of owning his own business. Clark Excavating began as a part-time venture with the purchase a backhoe, a bulldozer, and a dump truck. This was done in addition to his full time employment for Nory Construction Company.

Clark Excavating quickly expanded and within one year Mr. Clark was able to leave Nory Construction and devote all his efforts to his own business. During 1973 and 1974 Clark Excavating was engaged in various construction projects, excavating for water and sewer on a residential and commercial basis. In 1975, Clark Excavating was incorporated and became involved in municipal, state and federal, bonded construction work. A need for separation from bonded and non bonded work soon became apparent and a sister company of Villager Construction was formed in 1979 and incorporated in 1980.

In May of 1988, Clark Excavating was dissolved as a corporation and all assets merged with Villager Construction, Inc, with Richard Clark still being president of the Company. Villager Construction is engaged in all phases of Street and Road construction that includes excavating, paving, milling, sewer reconstruction and installation, waterline installation, and concrete work as it is related to street construction projects.

Since 1980, Villager Construction, under the able leadership and expertise of its President Richard Clark, has seen a steady growth. We perform bonded work for municipal, State and Federal agencies that range from $50K to $11 million per project. In 1997, we expanded our office and shop area to handle the growth of the company. We employ up to 200 people, including 5 full time mechanics, several experienced superintendents and a number of laborers, truck drivers, and equipment operators. We own all construction equipment necessary to perform all phases of Road Construction, including Mainline Pavers and Pavement Profilers that are working in nine eastern states.
