Villager's Roots

Prior to the establishment of Villager Construction, Inc., Richard Clark gained valuable experience in construction as a member of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. After that, he became an Operating Engineer for CP Ward, Inc. of Rochester, NY, where he worked on all phases of excavation, sewer, road paving projects and operating heavy equipment.

In the early 1970's, Mr. Clark took on a position of Operating Engineer at Nory Construction Co. of Rochester, NY, where he supervised crews working on excavation, sewer, road and paving projects. After business hours, he would also operate snowplow equipment for A.V. Towner of Rochester, working at the Xerox Corporation in Webster, NY. In that same year, Mr. Clark started his first business as a part-time venture with only a backhoe, a bulldozer and a dump truck.

Within a year, Clark Excavating expanded quickly and Mr. Clark devoted all his time to the company.  Clark Excavating was engaged in various construction projects, excavating for water and sewer on a residential and commercial basis. The company was incorporated in 1975 and became involved in municipal, state and federal, bonded construction work. The entry into bonded work prompted Mr. Clark to form a sister company, Villager Construction, which was formed in 1979 and incorporated in 1980.

In May 1989, Clark Excavating was dissolved as a corporation and merged with Villager Construction Inc., where Richard Clark currently holds the chair as President.
